QU ART presents the solo exhibition of Belgian artist Manu vb Tintore | Paths in the Garden. The exhibition officially opened at the brand-new QU ART MUSEUM (Gusu) on November 24, 2023. Welcome to the enchanting garden of Belgian artist Manu vb Tintore! Once a UN agricultural engineer, he has transformed from engineering construction to expressing creativity with a paintbrush, and with his contemplation on the relationship between space and nature, he has created this unique exhibition.
The exhibition showcases 35 works from Tintore's two major series, "Territories of Oblivion" and "Nude Skin", outlining his understanding of nature and inner landscapes from a specific cultural perspective, and presenting his critical thoughts on the mechanisms of human land use and construction. Just like the abstract symbols of 20th-century surrealist master Joan Miró, Tintore abstracts the depiction of nature into a rational superimposition of colors, structures, grids, and boundaries, establishing a perfect symbiotic relationship between organic textures and geometric shapes, and endowing nature with new order and meaning amid conflict and chaos. Tintore's works are a contemporary tribute to the traditional garden art of Suzhou and a profound reflection on the relationship between humans and nature. While challenging the boundaries of visual art, they also demonstrate a deep concern for the future of the Earth. From these works, one can see his respect for nature and artistic exploration of seeking a harmonious coexistence.
As another model of in-depth cultural cooperation between China and Belgium, the exhibition not only presents the unique ecological philosophy in Tintoretto's works but also integrates the natural aesthetics of Suzhou's over two thousand years of cultural heritage. This exhibition marks the first show after the new renovation and upgrade of the U Art Museum, signifying a further breakthrough for Suzhou in international cultural and artistic exchanges. Through the in-depth dialogue between Tintoretto's works and the natural aesthetics of Suzhou gardens, the exhibition provides an important platform for promoting mutual learning and integration of art between China and Europe, broadens the perspective of cultural exchange, and demonstrates the resonance of culture and nature in a global context.
